How To Hear What People Really Say®
"I know you believe you understand what you think I said. But I'm not sure you
realize that what you heard is not what I meant."
The tongue-in-cheek statement above describes what people often feel when they are trying to get someone else to "just listen!" You might agree that listening is an "art," not a science.
In this interactive workshop you will begin to apply listening skills in practice with your fellow participants. You will take away a framework for continually
improving your listening, including:
- The difference between “hearing” and “listening.”
- The art of asking the right kinds of questions that encourage communication.
- Four specific active listening techniques that will keep conversations going.
- Verbal and non-verbal listening techniques.
- The differences between sympathy and empathy, and putting them to work.
- Ways to defuse emotional responses.
